Why did you decide to make this character for the selections?
Cherryzard & Fëanor: We picked Mei and Reaper because the characters suit us very well and we can tell an exciting story with these personalities. Furthermore, we saw some great challenges in this project, craft-wise. There is both armor and sewing, light-up parts and weapons. And we also get to play with proportions and make sure everything is to scale and looks right on the body. Peter is not very fond of wearing wigs, so Reaper’s mask and hood is a great alternative.
Which part of your costume are you the proudest of?
Cherryzard: I’m very fond of the jacket’s shoulders. The embroidery looks just right, adding some Chinese finesse to an outdoor jacket, and the decorative swirls made of EL wire add just the right amount of futuristic flavour to the costume.
Fëanor: I love how my mask turned out. The smooth surface was achieved after hours upon hours of priming and sanding. A paint job and lastly a coat of matte varnish just gives the mask the right look and, combined with the long sweeping coat with the big hood, I feel just as grim as Reaper himself.
And now you’ll see Cherryzard Cosplay and Fëanor Cosplay and Crafts on stage at Japan Expo for the finals on July 7: let’s wish them the best of luck!
